JENNINGS, La. (AP) — The Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's Office confirms a man arrested in connection with a Texas homicide was found dead in the parish jail.

KPLC-TV reports 24-year-old Richard Vaughn Craig, of Humble, Texas, apparently hanged himself in his cell Saturday. Cmdr. Chris Ivey says Craig was placed on suicide watch in an isolation cell. He says deputies tried to revive Craig, who ultimately was pronounced dead by a coroner.

An extradition hearing had been scheduled Monday to determine whether Craig was to be transported to Houston, where he was wanted in the Dec. 30 death of 23-year-old Jeremy Davis, of Houston, who was shot multiple times in the head and torso.

Craig had been arrested that day south of Elton on a fugitive warrant for murder.
