Pleasant Grove Man In Custody Following Standoff With SWAT
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- A standoff in Pleasant Grove ended after nearly six hours Friday morning after a man barricaded himself inside a home.
Around midnight, police responded to a domestic dispute in the 7200 block of Bramlett Drive near Lake June and Jim Miller Road.
According to police, a mother in her 70's called to report that her son, 54-year-old Jimmy Westmorland, threatened to kill her. Police say he has a history of violence.
The mother was able to escape the residence. When officers arrived, Westmorland claimed he had a gun and refused to leave the residence.
Negotiators established communication with the man, but he refused to leave the residence.
Distraction devices and a chemical irritant were ultimately deployed, forcing the suspect to leave the residence. He was taken into custody without incident.
He has been charged with Aggravated Assault Family Violence.
