INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Olympic gymnastics champion Nastia Liukin has been named the grand marshal for the Indianapolis 500.

Liukin, who grew up in Texas, was the individual all-around gold medalist at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Her duties as grand marshal will include a parade lap around Indianapolis Motor Speedway and attending the 500 Festival Parade.

According to the 500 Festival website, past grand marshals of the Indianapolis 500 include President Gerald Ford, Vice President Dan Quayle, Larry Bird and Olivia Newton John. Last year's grand marshal was Josh Kaufman, an Indianapolis resident who won the TV competition show "The Voice" in 2014.

This year's Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for May 24.
