Lightning Strike Blamed For Fire That Destroyed Irving Apartments

IRVING (CBS11) – An early morning fire at the Estrada Oaks Apartments on the 2100 block of Estrada in Irving is being blamed on a lightning strike.

The fire started around 3:30 in the morning and destroyed all 16 units of the building that ignited.

Robert Bavier says who lived in the first floor of the building says he managed to wake his wife and run out with here with nothing more than the clothes on their back.

Bavier said, "I can understand where victims from Hurricane Katrina and tornadoes victims and what they go through and what they feel like now that it's happened to me."

No one was hurt in the fire but everyone's belongings burned.

Angie Ayalla who is 8 months pregnant said, "All that matters is that we're fine."

The property manager is helping house the displaced residents at another one of their properties while they work out details with their insurance companies.
