AUSTIN (AP) — No reason to get your hair in a wad anymore, Texas brides.

That is the message some lawmakers hoped to send Thursday when the House gave preliminary approval to let cosmetologists and barbers work outside salons or shops without fear of violating state law.

Hairdressers and stylists are currently prohibited from operating outside a licensed facility. That hasn't stopped cosmetologists from fixing hair at special events on the sly.

Democratic Repressentative Celia Israel says her bill will help cosmetologists operate at events like drag shows and weddings without worrying that their license will be revoked.

The bill awaits final approval in the House and Senate.
