KKK Flyers Dropped In Van Zandt County

VAN ZANDT COUNTY(CBSDFW.COM) - The flyers were sealed in plastic bags with rocks and chucked onto people's lawns or driveways.

Neighbors who picked them up say weren't happy with the message inside.  Rebecca Baker says she's just glad she found the flyer before her son did.

"Be glad I don't have to explain this to my 8-year-old," says Baker.

"Keep America American" it reads, urging "honorable native born white Americans"  to defend the country against immigrants.

"This mentality, it disgusts me," says Baker.

The flyer dropped in front of several nearby homes is signed by a local branch of the Ku Klux Klan.

It directs recipients to a post office box in Quinlan, roughly 30 miles east of Dallas and a web address where there's an application.

It requires new members be white, Christian citizens at least 18 years of age with no Jewish ancestry.
But the reaction in small town Edgewood may not be what the organization hoped for.

"Mostly it was outrage that someone would come into our community and put this kind of stuff on our lawn that our children might pick up and find," says Baker.

Baker says she's never seen any other presence of the KKK here, but an online post announces the group will hold a BBQ in nearby Hunt County this fall with plans to set a cross on fire at dusk.
Baker, for one, is certain she and her neighbors won't be attending.

"Some people think that when you live in a small town that it means you're small-minded, that you're not as open-minded as other people and that's not true at all."

Similar flyers appeared last year.  Online posts indicate the group is actively recruiting.
There's no indication how many members they may currently have.
