It is my pleasure to introduce to you, our readers, a fabulous garage-pysch, all-girl rock band quartet from Los Angeles and Phoenix: The Darts! But first, a little history.

Garage rock has been around for well over 50 years. I first started listening it on Top 40 radio during the mid-1960's with groups such as The Standells, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Kingsmen, The Seeds, The Castaways, and The Five Americans (at least initially with I See The Light), to name a few.

All-girl rock groups have been around awhile as well. In 1971, Warner Brothers Records introduced us to a girl group called Fanny, founded by June and Jean Millington, who charted with a song called "Charity Ball." In the 1990's, we were introduced to all-girl alternative rock band (with one male musician) called The Breeders, formed by Kim & Kelly Deal. And while it varies with each group, the commonality of instruments used are drums, bass guitar, lead guitar, keyboard, harmonica and very strong but hard charging voices and lyrics!

Over the weekend, I dialed into Sirius XM 21 (Little Steven's Underground Garage) and heard The Darts for the first time and I can tell you I was hooked. The group's members are: Michelle Balderrama (guitar/vocals), Nicole Laurenne (organ/vocals), Christina Nunez (bass/vocals), and Rikki Styxx (drums/vocals). They have only been on the national scene about a year but this band is getting airplay. They have released two 10-inch vinyl EPs full of fabulous songs. They played their first live show this past October and have signed with Dirty Water Records in London (BTW, Dirty Water was the name of a top 20 hit by The Standells in 1966!).

So ladies and gentlemen…………..Meet The Darts!! Check out one of their hottest songs, "Take What I Need."
