ADDISON (CBSDFW.COM) - Hundreds of people were turned away from Kaboom Town Friday night after the popular fireworks show in Addison drew too many people.

Organizers said their maximum capacity was 500,000 people, but started closing the gates to the event hours before the fireworks show began.

"I saw all the traffic built up and then I saw everybody parked along the side of the road so I figured I'd come over here," said Ross Phillips.
Many people who were turned away from Kaboom Town ended up parking along side streets to catch a glimpse of the show.

"Residents here have been really friendly. They even opened up their homes to us to use the restroom if we needed to. So we made lots of new friends for the day," said Heidi Harris.

The new spot did not seem to bother kids who attended the event in the slightest.

Others though got more creative and took to the roofs of nearby parking garages in the hopes the elevation would create a better vantage point.

"Kind of like guy shopping. Get in and get out. Get what you need and get out," said John Duncan.
Duncan always parks along roads just outside of Kaboom Town. For Duncan, the best part of it all is the clear shot home that is away from all of the traffic.

"You know a 30-minute show, a great show. But 2 hours, 2 hours and 15 minutes to get out? That's now good," said Duncan.

Kaboom Town organizers said they warned folks early about crowds. Four other parks to view the fireworks were set up to deal with the crowds.
