Jobs Report: Asking For A Raise

This could be a good time for you to ask for that long-awaited bump in pay.

Job openings are increasing to 15-year highs in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and across the U.S. In the post-recession era, employees don't earn a raise simply by tenure.

They must show that they add value and make a difference to the company.

Career experts advise taking three steps before talking to your boss.

First, gather information about company and industry salaries, have a reasonable target salary in mind, write down your unique contributions to the company, include money-saving ideas you implemented, positive reviews and customer testimonials.

Next, rehearse what you will say.

Finally, schedule your conversation at an appropriate time, don't wait for the yearly review.
