DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- Firefighters and Atmos Energy crews are still working to determine what caused a home to suddenly explode on Monday evening in southeast Dallas.

Crews spent much of the night inspecting debris from the flattened home on Eloise Drive, though authorities have not yet released a cause for the explosion.

Area residents said they heard and felt a blast just before 8 p.m. and immediately became worried about the 76-year-old woman and her 35-year-old grandson who live there.

Neighbors helped pull the woman out of a window just after the incident. She and her grandson were taken to hospital. They are expected to be OK.

At least one neighbor said firefighters urged her to stay somewhere else last night as a safety precaution. She took the advice and went to her sister's house.

Neighbor Tammy Davenport said,  "I was tossing and turning. I couldn't sleep. I was worried about my neighbors and worried about whether or not everything was okay." Devenport was able to return to her home early this morning.

Atmos Energy released the following statement Monday night.

"The safety of those affected and the neighborhood is our top priority tonight. We will remain on the scene to perform a thorough and complete investigation of our system."

The company is asking residents to report any smell of natural gas by calling 911 or the Atmos Energy emergency line at 1-866-322-8667.
