DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The City of Dallas has a freshly sworn in city council.

The inauguration ceremony for Mayor Mike Rawlings and city council members took place at the Meyerson Symphony Center.

After Mayor Rawlings was sworn in for a new term, he spoke about his vision for the City and for the new council. "It is not always the decision you make, or the votes you cast, but it is always how we come to those decisions that does matter," he said, adding, "Let us always be courageous to make the tough decisions, that may not always be popular or politically correct -- yes, for the good of our city."

Mayor Rawlings also praised the outgoing council members for their accomplishments while in office. Six familiar council members are gone, after serving the maximum terms of eight years. Jerry Allen, Tennell Atkins, Dwaine Caraway, Carolyn Davis, Vonciel Jones Hill and Sheffie Kadane were honored, as Mayor Rawlings spoke about the newly elected officials.

He said, "We undoubtedly attracted candidates who now comprise what I believe is the youngest city council in our city's history."

In a statement before the inauguration the Mayor said Dallas is "poised for continued success," but admitted city leaders still have a lot of work to do and obstacles to overcome.

Dallas County Commissioner Elba Garcia was the master of ceremonies for Monday's inauguration, that included a number of speakers, a dance performance, and music from the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
