HOUSTON (AP) — Two adults and five children were hurt after a freight train collided with two cars in southwest Houston.
The Houston Chronicle reports that a BNSF train hit the vehicles around 1:30 p.m. Friday.
The drivers of both cars sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Five children were also hurt in the crash, though the extent of their injuries wasn't immediately clear.
BNSF spokesman Joseph Faust said witnesses reported that two drivers got out of their cars and lifted arms that had dropped to block a railway crossing near the corner of Fondren Road and South Main Street.
He said the two drivers then proceeded over the tracks and were struck by the oncoming train.
Houston Fire Department spokesman Jay Evans said he had no information on what caused the accident.
