Houston-Area Firefighter Fatally Shot During Fight, Argument

MONTGOMERY (AP) — Investigators say a Houston-area homeowner has fatally shot a firefighter after both attended a party and later got into a physical fight.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office says Nicholas Daniel was shot during an argument early Sunday in Montgomery. A sheriff's department statement says the shooting will be referred to a grand jury.

Sheriff's Lt. Scott Spencer says Daniel worked for The Woodlands Fire Department. Department officials didn't immediately return messages Monday.

Investigators say both men attended a party Saturday night at a home and the dispute allegedly involved text messages. Details weren't released.

The shooting happened later at another residence. Spencer says that homeowner said Daniel drove up and allegedly opened the door of the man's residence, seeking him, then they fought.

The homeowner contacted deputies after the shooting.
