FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Homicide detectives are investigating the death of an elderly woman in her home on Heritage Lane near Sheffield Drive in south Fort Worth.

"She was a good neighbor, very caring, watched out for everyone, always trying to help someone do something," neighbor Danny Messick said.

Another neighbor said they heard the woman arguing with someone Tuesday. "I kept hearing her say 'get away from me, get away from me,'... you could tell they were in a very heated argument, about what I don't know. I couldn't hear from across the street."

Police responded to the call at 3 p.m. They detained the man who opened the door as a person of interest, according to Sgt. Mark Povero, Fort Worth police spokesman.

Sgt. Povero said homicide detectives are currently combing the crime scene looking for evidence, taking photographs and have yet to determine if the person of interest also called 911.

No recent calls were made regarding any domestic disturbances at the home, according to Sgt. Povero.

It's still very early in the investigation but police are treating the crime as a homicide.
