Grayson Co. Sheriff's Office Deputy Dusty Wainscott Collapses, Dies After Altercation With Suspects
SHERMAN, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) — The Grayson County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of one of their investigators.
Deputy Dusty Wainscott was with other members of the sheriff's office when they made a traffic stop on September 8 in Sherman. Two suspects jumped from the vehicle and ran but were quickly apprehended.
Officials say it was after the suspects were arrested that Investigator Wainscott collapsed. The 38-year-old received medical care at the scene and was taken to a local hospital but passed away.
Wainscott had been a law enforcement officer in Grayson County for 16 years. In addition to the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, he also served with the Van Alstyne and Pottsboro Police Departments.
In a social media post Sheriff Tom Wyatt said Deputy Wainscott was a 'great man' who served his country with integrity and pride. "His passing will leave a tremendous hole in our agency and our county," the sheriff said. "This has been one of the most difficult days I have ever had in my law enforcement career."
Wainscott was a lifelong Grayson County resident and is survived by his wife and other family members.
Officials have not said what caused Wainscott's death.
