Gas leak in North Dallas prompts hours-long closure of Inwood Road at Forest Lane

CBS News Texas

DALLAS – Part of Inwood Road in North Dallas is shut down due to a gas leak.

Dallas Fire-Rescue said crews first responded to the gas leak in front of the Lowe's Home Improvement store at 11920 Inwood Road around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. DFR said the leak could not be located and notified Atmos to investigate.

Wednesday morning, DFR crews were called back to the area to help block Inwood Road in both directions between Forest Lane and Willow Lane for the Atmos technicians to find and fix the leak. DFR said an 8-inch gas main ruptured at that location. There is no information about how the line ruptured.

A DFR engine remained outside Lowe's throughout Wednesday morning in case of an emergency. Around 1:30 p.m., the gas was shut off and DFR cleared the scene.

Two southbound lanes have reopened, DFR said; however, the northbound lanes remain closed and repairs are ongoing.

CBS News Texas Chopper was over the scene Wednesday morning, showing the blocked-off road and customers walking in and out of the Lowe's.
