Ft. Worth Outdoor Warning Sirens Fail Wednesday; Repairs Underway

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The City of Fort Worth will proceed with weekly testing of its emergency siren system, despite the failure of some horn operations to adequately activate.
Wednesday, 38 of the city's Outdoor Warning Sirens failed to sound off during testing.
Last week, a malfunction of the warning test created an opposite effect: 75 of 153 warning sirens blared for almost two hours non-stop. City Emergency Management workers disconnected the horns on sirens, or batteries died on others. While the repair process is on-going, so too are the weekly warning tests.
"We knew some horns were deactivated," Juan Ortiz, Director of Emergency Management said.
The deactivated warning horns are now being reconnected.
"We identified sirens that were blown and being replaced, but this is a process we're going through. We still have 38 to go," Ortiz said.
The outdoor warning sirens alert the public to tornado warnings, state or national emergency declarations and chemical spills.
The City of Fort Worth also provides emergency alerts via phone text or email.
