From Nice to Stormy to Cold Again

It's not that unusual to have a short run of 70° weather in December. What IS unusual is that it rarely sticks around. For the second day in a row we've reached a high of 71°; we'll likely hit at least 70° tomorrow. But it won't be because of sunshine like today, it'll be from a tremendous south wind.

We have a major storm system winding up on the front range to our west. It'll pump up a strong south wind. Overnight thick clouds will quickly close in; the ceiling will be low. There is going to be some mist/fog around tomorrow morning with a few passing showers/sprinkles. It'll be breezy overnight and in the morning warm temperatures

The wind is going to pick up later in the morning. By afternoon it'll be 20-30mph with gusts near 40mph. A dry-line from the west will fire up some storms. I expect the storms be in and around the metro area by noon or 1pm as the cold front comes in:

The rain will lower the temperatures a bit; it'll be the last time we'll in the 70's for a while probably till after Christmas. There could be some good rain from this; the first good rain of December:

The peak of the storm activity will be in the afternoon as the line starts to take shape. This could happen just over the metro area but odds are better it happens east of the I-35 corridor in our northeast quadrant (Cooke and Denton Counties over to the eastern edge of our viewing area).

We'll be monitoring these storms for rotation and how low their base are. There is a slight risk we get severe weather. The biggest risk will be damaging winds and even some moderate-sized hail. There is the slight risk of tornadoes even but it's very low.

Because of the pace and track of the low to our north the cold air won't really arrive in strength until Tuesday. That's when we return to 50 degree weather. Another shot of rain is right behind this one, it arrives Wednesday:
