FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - Hundreds of students walked out of Frisco High School on Tuesday to show support for reassigned principal Sylvia Palacios. Now, the high school's principal is fighting back to keep her job. She is taking legal action, and filed a grievance late Wednesday night.

In the grievance, Palacios said that she was blindsided when, after seven years at Frisco High School, she was prompted to transfer to the Frisco Independent School District's alternative school. Her new title would be Associate Principal.

Superintendent Jeremy Lyon insisted that the move was not a demotion, and that Palacios would still receive her same salary. However, the principal does not agree and fears that she will get less money.

Palacios also stated that she was never given a reason for the demotion, and that she has had outstanding performance evaluations in her time at Frisco High School. Students have credited Palacios with addressing their needs and creating a healthy learning environment.

The students are demanding that Palacios come back to Frisco High School next year.

Now that a grievance has been filed, Lyons has 10 business days to respond. If it is rejected, and the superintendent will not agree to let Palacios keep her job, the next appeal would be to the school board.

Students on Wednesday night said that they are glad to see Palacios fighting to stay at Frisco High School.
