LITTLE ELM (CBSDFW.COM) – A North Texas mother found out about a safety recall from a frightening experience while driving her kids to school.

Jewel Sfarjilani's Ford Escape SUV is covered in duct tape.

It was an emergency do it yourself repair so she could get her kids safely home on Wednesday.

Sfarjilani's 5-year-old daughter was in the rear passenger seat and noticed her door opening on a street near their Little Elm home.

The vehicle was among more than 700,000 that Ford has recalled for faulty side door latches.

Sfarjilani took out her frustration in a Facebook video when her complaint to Ford that she wasn't notified about the recall went unanswered.

"My child could've been seriously injured and I actually told them if she had fallen out this would be a very different conversation," says Sfarjilani.

CBS 11 News made several calls and sent emails to Ford for comment but have not heard back.

The company reports only one accident and one injury from the defect.

But vehicles subjected to hotter temperatures like those in Texas are said to be more vulnerable.
