Neighbors Of Rockwall Teacher, Coach React To Arrest

ROWLETT (CBS11) - Shock and disbelief from the people who know the Rockwall ISD teacher and coach who is accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl.
Rowlett Police released the arrest report of James R. Smith on Thursday, detailing what investigators believe happened between the teen and Smith.
According to the affidavit, it began when the victim was staying with Smith while her family was on vacation. Investigators said the victim attempted to take a bath when Smith walked in on her and would not leave.
The victim told police when Smith approached her, "I tried to yank back, but he had a firm grip and I couldn't get him off me, then it happened…," wrote the victim.
The report indicates when the victim screamed, Smith allegedly slapped her in the face.
When it was over, the victims said she was threatened by Smith.
"…he told me that if I told my mom or anyone else he would hurt my sister the same way because he had been watching her at cheer practice…," wrote the victim.
Friends and neighbors who live near Smith in his Rowlett neighborhood could hardly read what police detailed in the report.
"It hurts me to think that they thought he may have done something as bad as that," said Ken Boren, a neighbor.
When reached for comment at his home, Smith closed his door and said, "I'm not answering questions."
Rowlett Police said the case will now be filed with the Dallas County District Attorney's Office.
Smith remains free after posting $50,000 bail.
