Fort Worth Welcomes College Football Fans
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - College football fans -- and ESPN -- will descend on North Texas this weekend as the Cowboys Classic kicks off at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Saturday. The sports news network has already started rolling out the red carpet at Sundance Square Plaza in Fort Worth.
Workers began putting the ESPN setup together on Thursday, as the ESPN College Gameday crew prepares for their first broadcast of the season.
They will return in January ahead of the championship game, which will also be played at AT&T Stadium.
This weekend marks the third time that ESPN has selected Sundance Square as their backdrop. The network was here in 2011 for Super Bowl XLV and again earlier this year for the NCAA Final Four.
The ESPN College Gameday broadcast is usually set up at a school campus. But the Cowboys Classic does not include a North Texas team -- Florida State and Oklahoma State -- so the network is hoping that fans will show up at this neutral spot to cheer on their team, along with fans of any other college football team.
Meanwhile, at the stadium before the big game, former Dallas Cowboys player Jay Novacek will be holding a special tailgate party with fans. Watch the video below for more information about that event.
