ARLINGTON HEIGHTS (CBSNewsTexas) - The Fort Worth Police Department is searching for the mother of a deceased newborn left in the front yard of a home in the 5100 block of Birchman Avenue near Camp Bowie and I-30.

Police said someone placed the baby -- a girl -- there between the hours of 10 p.m. on June 5 and 6:40 a.m. on June 6.

"This one right here... I just feel like this child had no chance," said Fort Worth Police Department Officer Buddy Calzada. "We've seen cases where children ended up deceased and it's sad and it hits home, but in this case it hits home even more because this child had absolutely no chance."

Police said the baby was only a hours old when a neighbor found her. They have already spoken with neighbors and checked Ring surveillance videos from surrounding homes but still haven't pieced together what happened. Neighbors in the community said they're sickened by what happened.

"It just makes me sad I hope that they're able to find out who did this and what happened," shared Brett Schroeder, who lives in the area.

The medical examiner's office is working to identify the baby's cause of death. Police said they need to make sure the mother is safe and not in any danger. They're asking for anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious to contact detectives immediately.

Anyone in the area is asked to watch their video surveillance for anything that may help investigators.

If anyone has information, please contact Investigators at 682.382.1510 or 682.382.1524.
