FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Some homeowners in Fort Worth will not soon forget the heavy rainfall that flooded neighborhoods earlier this year. Now, city officials are meeting to talk about the flooding concerns.

Streets in the Arlington Heights area looked more like rivers back in April. Water rushed through the roadways and even into some homes. But the city said that the neighborhood is not on the FEMA floodplain. So, they had to come up with their own solution, and it included a new drainage project with a water retention pond.

For the residents who live there — and have dealt with flooding before — this is long overdue.

"I took the wall that was in front of the property, I covered my back driveway that went into the garage, so now all the water flows around my house and towards the middle of the block," said Arlington Heights resident Tom Law.

Crews have already been working on the new solution for months, to help with these flooding problems during times of heavy rain, however, it could be another year before they complete the drainage project.

Meanwhile, officials in Fort Worth are ready to talk about flooding concerns in other neighborhoods. A meeting is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon at the Hazel Harvey Peace Center For Neighborhoods, located at 818 Mission Avenue.

Officials will examine high-risk areas and even discuss possible solutions. This is the chance for those residents to share their concerns with the city.
