DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – North Texas Community Foundation issued a grant to one of the Fort Worth officers injured in the line of duty. Officer Xavier Serrano will receive assistance thanks to the Fleetwood Memorial Foundation Fund.

"The beauty of our fund is the speed with which we are able to help families. We are able to issue a grant the day after tragedy strikes so that families have one less thing to worry about during a trying time," says Nancy E. Jones, North Texas Community Foundation President/CEO.

The Fleetwood Memorial Foundation Fund was founded in 1974 to ease some of the financial burden on the brave men and women who are injured while serving and protecting the state of Texas.

Grants are available to Certified Texas Law Enforcement or Fire Protection Personnel who are injured in the line of duty or to their families if they are killed in the line of duty. Re-training grants and educational assistance for dependent children are also available through the fund.
