FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The bitter chill is back and the City of Fort Worth wants to make sure the homeless get through the night alive.

The city's community-based emergency shelters' beds are full so the city activated its Cold Weather Overflow Emergency Shelter Plan and the Bertha Collins Recreation Center at 1501 MLK Freeway is now open as an overflow shelter for the homeless.

The overflow shelter began receiving guests at 8:30 Monday night.

To receive a text message alert when a cold weather overflow emergency shelter is activated, text: CFWDIRHOME to 888777.
