WAXAHACHIE (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities arrested a former lieutenant with the Ellis County Sheriff's Office Friday, April 15 in Cedar Hill.

The Ellis County Sheriff's Office says Philip Gary Slaughter II was arrested for tampering with a government record, tampering or fabricating physical evidence and three counts of theft of property.

After being contacted by the Ennis Police Department, the Ellis County Sheriff's Office looked into the case and then asked the Texas Rangers to take over the investigation.

Slaughter was with the Ellis County Sheriff's Office from October 2001 until March 2016 when he "abruptly resigned."

The Ellis County Sheriff's Office is not saying what was stolen.

Slaughter remains in the Wayne McCollum Detention Center on bonds totaling $510,000.
