DALLAS (AP) — Thousands of students in Texas had a day off after a deadly late-winter storm dumped several inches of snow, canceled hundreds of flights and left roads icy.

Dallas police are seeking suspects in the apparent random fatal shooting early Thursday of a man in a parking lot as he took photos of newly fallen snow.

Police in Little Elm, 25 miles north of Dallas, say one man died in a multivehicle traffic accident Wednesday night on icy roads. The victim was 41-year-old Paul Dering of Savannah.

Schools in Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Denton, Austin, Wichita Falls, Abilene and Grapevine, with 7 inches of snow, canceled classes Thursday before the storm system moved on.

Flightaware.com reports more than 800 flights canceled Thursday at snowy Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
