Fight Continues Over Proposed Buc-ee's In Corinth
CORINTH (CBSDFW.COM) -- City leaders are expected to determine the fate of a proposed Buc-ee's convenience store off of I-35 in Corinth on Thursday night.
Buc-ee's is hoping to place a store with 96 gas pumps on 18 acres at Corinth Parkway.
Officials say the store would bring significant economic development to the area. Residents fear the mega-store would be a distraction and ultimately become a nuisance.
"I'm not happy at all. It's going to be a lot of traffic, a lot of nuisances going on," said Patricia Marziotto, who lives in the neighborhood adjacent to the proposed site.
The city expects to bring in $75,000 in property taxes alone, on top of sales tax revenue.
"Plus, we get 2% of whatever sales tax they generate," said Guy Brown, executive director of the Economic Development Corporation for Corinth.
Buc-ee's is hoping to get the green light and has plans to break ground as early as January 2015.
The City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday night.
