FIFA to announce host city for the 2026 World Cup final
ARLINGTON – This Sunday, FIFA is set to announce what city will be host to the World Cup final – could North Texas be named?
The Dallas Sports Commission said they have not heard from FIFA, the international group that puts on the World Cup event.
FIFA officials have already visited North Texas, including AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Dallas has already been named, along with 15 other cities in North America, to host some of the matches.
America will play host to the World Cup for the second time in its history. The first time it was held in Pasadena, California, was in 1994.
16 host cities across three countries will share hosting duties for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to CBS News. This will be the first time a tournament has been shared by three nations: the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Outside of the final game, teams from all over the world will compete in head-to-head matches in North Texas at various metroplex locations, such as Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, and more. Local companies and sports teams are thrilled about the possible economic impact.
