FCC Urges Hotels To Implement New 9-1-1 Dialing System
DALLAS, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - The Federal Communications Commission says more hotel and motel operators are allowing guests to dial 9-1-1 directly in the event of an emergency.
The issue came to light after a Marshall, Texas woman was stabbed to death at a motel in East Texas.
Kari Hunt Dunn's 9-year-old daughter witnessed the attack, and desperately tried to call for help by dialing 9-1-1 but was unable to summon authorities.
The young girl tried to call for help 4 times, but did not know she first had to dial 9 to get an outside line.
Dunn's father started an online petition, asking the Federal Government for help on the issue.
The petition attracted the attention of FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai, who spoke with 1080 KRLD's Chris Sommer.
