DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A fatal motorcycle crash shut down a major freeway in Dallas early Tuesday morning. It happened at around 2:45 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate-30 near Hotel Street.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Office said that the driver of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle lost control of his bike and went to the ground. He was then run over by a passing big rig and died at the scene. The motorcycle was also badly damaged during the incident.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner was called to the crash scene, but the name of the deceased individual has not yet been released. Traffic investigators were also at the scene early Tuesday morning.

This is typically a busy stretch of highway, as it is located directly south of downtown Dallas. The area is also currently under road construction, but it is not yet clear if this may have been a factor in the Tuesday morning crash.

The eastbound lanes of Interstate-30 were shut down while investigators were on the scene, along with the ramps from southbound Interstate-35E to eastbound Interstate-30. Everything has since opened back up to regular traffic.
