DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — Authorities are trying to determine what started a Dallas house fire that left an elderly woman dead.

Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans says the blaze broke out before dawn Sunday while the woman and her adult son were in the home. Evans says the son managed to escape from the burning one-story residence.

When firefighters arrived, neighbors alerted then that there was possibly someone still inside, but Evans said the fire had fully engulfed the hoe and it was unsafe for anyone to try and enter.

Investigators did not immediately release the name or age of the victim, whose body was discovered by a search dog following the blaze.

Authorities say the family's dog also died in the house fire.
