KAUFMAN COUNTY (CBS11) The bus was packed with children when an SUV pulled out in front of it onto FM 548.

Investigators say that SUV driver failed to yield when she pulled out from Reeder Lane into the path of the school bus. This is an intersection some say can be a challenge for a lot of drivers.

Brown Middle School Mom Jacqueline Monaco's reaction was like many parents' when they learned about the crash.

"Even though the majority of the children were not hurt, I'm just glad my son wasn't on the bus," Monaco said.

Three children were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital, but all were soon released.

"It was really chaotic. You know it doesn't happen around here often, so everybody was kind of talking about it," eighth grader Ethan Monaco said.

It was the SUV driver that sustained the worst injuries in the crash and had to be airlifted to Parkland Hospital.

"This intersection right here can be kind of scary late at night or early in the morning there's just so many people trying to get in and out and trying to figure out when you can cross," Jacqueline Monaco said.

The Department Of Public Safety continues to investigate the collision, but early findings show failure to yield as the cause of the crash. Nonetheless, some have called for a stoplight to be added to the intersection.

TXDOT tells us so far they have received no formal requests for a stoplight at this intersection, but a spokesperson says anyone is free to make a request through their local government.

At last check officials did not have an update on that SUV driver's condition. A DPS spokesperson says they will continue to investigate over the next few days to determine whether the driver will be cited for the collision.

Forney ISD officials planned to contact parents of students involved in a school bus crash Friday with an update.
