DPS Troopers Out In Force During Thanksgiving Holiday

NORTH TEXAS (AP) - Texas troopers out in force during Thanksgiving week will be watching for drunken drivers and people who don't buckle up during the busy holiday period.

The Texas Department of Public Safety on Monday urged travelers to use caution and keep roadways safe.

AAA Texas predicts 3.6 million Texans will travel 50 miles or more from home over the Thanksgiving holiday.

DPS troopers during the 2013 Thanksgiving period made 387 DWI arrests, issued 6,848 speeding citations and wrote 804 citations for lack of insurance. Troopers also issued 704 seat belt-child safety seat citations.

DPS patrols resulted in 244 fugitive arrests and 187 felony arrests during last year's Thanksgiving week.
