DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Two weeks ago Downtown Dallas businesses were pointing fingers at police about crime concerns.

Now they are thanking them with free food.

Two downtown restaurants held events this week to show appreciation for panhandling enforcement efforts that business owners said are paying off.

The Woolworth on Elm Street invited downtown officers over for a free dinner on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, The Purple Onion on Field Street held a Downtown Dallas Police Department lunch and dinner.

During a recent crime meeting, downtown business workers and residents complained that aggressive panhandling and violent muggings were on the rise. Dallas Police announced new initiatives to clean up the streets and business owners said they are noticing an improvement.
