Deadly Crash Closes Highway 114 In Denton County

RHOME, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) -- A 50-year-old woman was killed in Denton County on Monday night when a big rig crossed into oncoming traffic and caused a chain reaction crash.

The crash happened just before 7 p.m. on SH 114 at South County Line Road, closing the roadway for hours.

According to troopers, a big rig carrying a load of rocks veered into the westbound lanes of 114. A semi traveling opposite the vehicle took evasive action to avoid a collision, but was struck.

The semi then hit a Hyundai Elantra traveling westbound. The driver of the Elantra, later identified as Jamie Richardson from Rhome, died at the scene.

The driver of the big rig was transported to JPS Hospital in Ft. Worth via air ambulance. His condition is unknown.

A Chevrolet Tahoe was also involved in the crash. The driver was treated at the scene and released.
