Police: Man Causes $120K In Damage To Downtown Dallas Condo Lobby

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A downtown Dallas condo building suffered an estimated $120,000 in damage after residents say a homeless man Sunday night smashed its glass doors and broke furniture in the lobby.

Plastic tarps now cover the entryway at 1505 Elm Street,

Across the street, the manager at Jimmy John's spotted the commotion.

"I saw the police cars and the safety patrol and an ambulance pull up across the street," said Mari Dodgin.

Several condo owners, who declined to go on camera, told CBS11 a homeless man forced his way into the lobby and told the concierge he thought he was followed before losing his temper and trashing the area.

Dallas Police arrested Kyle Gaskins and charged him with criminal mischief.

"There's always been the homeless down here, but it's never been so violent," said Dodgin.

Someone broke a window at her restaurant last week, she said, and left a rock on top of one of the tables.

Across the street at 7-Eleven, a clerk told CBS11 a woman damaged a window by slamming her head against it.

"I usually try not to come out. I try to stay inside, so I don't have to run into those people," said Laura Yanes, who lives downtown.

She said she rarely walks down the street in her own neighborhood to avoid aggressive panhandlers.

She has sympathy, though, for those who've fallen on hard times.

"They do deserve help, so hopefully they can find some help," said Yanes.
