Dallas Woman Killed By Hit-&-Run Driver

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Dallas are searching for the driver who struck and killed a woman early Friday morning. The incident happened at around 6:55 a.m. along Preston Road, near the intersection with Alpha Road, in the northern part of the city.

The victim lives on one side of the road, and was picking up something from a store on the other side. When she did not return quickly, her boyfriend went outside to see what had happened. He then found the woman's shoe and umbrella in the middle of the street.

According to authorities, the woman was crossing the street when she was hit by an unknown vehicle that was traveling northbound along Preston Road. The suspect fled from the scene and has not yet been found.

Officials have identified the victim as 52-year-old Martha Perez.

Police said that the car could be a Mercury Grand Marquis or a Ford Crown Victoria with 20-inch rims. The vehicle was white and had dark-tinted windows and a spare tire on the rear passenger side. The car is also expected to be damaged on the lefthand front grill and lefthand front panel.

The incident shut down area roadways for about an hour while police were on the scene. All traffic is running smoothly again in this part of the city.
