DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A 2-year-old boy is recovering from surgery after he was shot outside his Dallas home.

Police said the toddler, named Jeremy, and his family were in their yard on Seco Boulevard near south Buckner when a car sped by early Sunday morning.

Relatives yelled at the driver to slow down. Forty-five minutes later, the family said the same car came back but this time a man with a shotgun got out and opened fire on the family.

Jeremy, his father, and another man were hurt.

The gunman got away.

Police said the shooter was in a maroon car, possibly a Ford Crown Victoria or Mercury Sable.

The toddler's father is home resting, but Jeremy's mother said he may stay in the hospital for the next two weeks.
