DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - An East Dallas resident shot and killed an armed suspect who police say tried to burglarize his house.

The shooting happened around 10:15 Friday morning at the corner of Freeport Drive and Gross Road.

Police say at this point, no charges are being filed against the resident.

Neighbors say they heard the gunshots and that the suspect was young.

Detectives aren't identifying the suspect just yet because they haven't notified his family.

Lt. Latoya Porter says, "The subject was attempting to burglarize the location with a shotgun when he was confronted, shot, and killed by the resident.

We went back to the house in question just a short time ago to speak with the resident, but no one answered the door.
