Search underway for gunman after Dallas police officer shot

DALLAS (CBSNewsTexas.com) – Dallas police are searching for three people after an officer was shot and his vehicle was stolen overnight.

It happened around 12:45 a.m. on Aug. 9. at the 2400 block of Northwest Highway.

The officer, who is a part of the Northwest Crime Response Team, was undercover and collecting surveillance when a vehicle came up behind the unmarked car.

Two people then got out of the vehicle. Police say one person had two firearms.

When the officer noticed the people outside the car, he got out, then the group exchanged gunfire with the officer. Moments later, they took off with the officers unmarked car.

The officer was taken to Parkland Hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been released from the hospital.

The stolen vehicle was recovered a short distance away from the scene.
