Dallas County Sheriff's Employee Arrested For Stealing, Pawning Gun

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A Dallas County Sheriff's employee has been arrested and charged with stealing a firearm.

Katenia Johnson, a 14-year employee, was previously assigned to the Training Academy as a clerk where the alleged theft happened.

Johnson currently works in the property vault at the Dallas County Jail.

Johnson is accused of stealing is a handgun that was issued to a cadet.

When the cadet left the academy, he turned his gun in to Johnson. The weapon was later discovered in a pawn shop under Johnson's name.

Johnson was booked into the Dallas County Jail and later released on a $1,500 bond.

The case will now be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Department says an internal affairs investigation regarding this theft is also in progress.
