North Texas elementary school safe to reopen after gun found on campus

A North Texas elementary school reopened Tuesday morning after being closed for a day due to a police investigation, involving a gun found on campus, officials said.

Crowley ISD sent the following alert to parents and staff members early Monday concerning the closure of J.A. Hargrave Elementary: "Due to an active law enforcement investigation taking place in the area near the campus. As a precaution, all students should remain at home and not report to school."

The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office told CBS News Texas that a shooting happened near the school around 4:30 a.m. Monday and a gun was found in a field on the school's campus. The incident prompted a search of the area, so as a precaution, the school was closed for the day.

The sheriff's office said no other weapons were found near the school and informed Crowley ISD that it was safe to resume classes Tuesday.

Crowley ISD thanked law enforcement and the district's parents in a message on social media
