Cowboys Rookie Patmon Says INT Return Didn't Seem Real

ARLINGTON (105.3 THE FAN) -- Tyler Patmon was stunned after intercepting Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer and returning it 58 yards for a touchdown on Sunday.

"It was great man," said Patmon after the game. "I was telling a couple of guys on the sideline, it was almost like it wasn't real when I was running the ball."

It was definitely real. Unfortunately for Dallas, it didn't really matter.

Patmon's early score put Dallas up 7-0 before the team ever possessed the ball, but the Cowboys wouldn't score another touchdown until the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

The 5-foot-10 cornerback said he was in a basic cover-2 and was simply reading Palmer's eyes.

"I saw his eyes and I saw him throwing the ball. I made a break on the ball and was able to get my hands on it."

The interception was the first of his NFL career, but the big play by Patmon shouldn't be too surprising.

The undrafted rookie had a knack for forcing turnovers this preseason, justifying his selection to the roster over players like Terrance Mitchell and B.W.Webb -- a 2013 4th round draft pick.

In a game against Miami, the cornerback picked off two passes, returning one for a 9-yard touchdown, and also forced a fumble.

At Kansas and Oklahoma State, Patmon recorded seven total interceptions.

Following the interception, Palmer threw for 226 yards and three touchdowns, finishing the day with a 103.7 quarterback rating.

"Going against a great team like Arizona, we have to make those plays on defense. We have to get off the field," said Patmon. "We just left a little short today."
