Sources: Cowboys Negotiating With DE Greg Hardy

IRVING (105.3 THE FAN) -- Late last week, the Cowboys' position on free-agent pass-rusher Greg Hardy seemed clear: A lot of sacks but a lot of baggage. Their position has changed.

Sources tell 105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher that the Cowboys have "hit accelerator" and are negotiating with free agent DE Greg Hardy.

Terms of a potential deal are not known. Sources also indicate that a deal is likely a ways off.

Their previous concerns were and are justifiable, given Hardy's involvement in a domestic violence case that has caused his own team, the Carolina Panthers, to let him go free -- and that may mean suspension from some games in 2015.

Hardy was the Panthers' franchise-tagged player a year ago after recording 15 sacks in 2013, and at 6-foot-4 and 275 pounds and just 26 years old, is an ideal cure to what ails the Dallas defense.

If not for his off-field issues, he would be a highly-sought-after player -- and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, is publicly insisting he still is. But even with the charges against him dropped, he is still subject to potential league discipline ... and if he was truly highly-sought-after, he wouldn't still be on the second-tier shelf of free agency.
