Continuous Rains Cause Pet Adoption Prices To Plummet

GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) - Hundreds of pets have found themselves homeless as a result of the continuous rain, causing a lowering of pet adoption prices at Prairie Paws Adoption Center.

The Grand Prairie city-owned animal shelter stepped in to house these animals in need. The facility has taken in more than 200 animals during recent storms in North Texas, and is bracing itself for another influx of cats and dogs.

Space is one of the key problems arising from this overflow.  To clear room for new arrivals, workers have shipped several pets to shelters in the Northeast. Local rescue groups and foster families have also taken in the animals.

Prairie Paws' website said that the shelter is at double capacity, drastically cutting adoption prices. People can adopt dogs, puppies and kittens for $20 now instead of $70. Adult cats are up for grabs for $10.

This exceptionally low purchase cost also includes sterilization, micro-chipping and vaccination.  All adult dogs are also tested for heartworms.

Those who wish to adopt need to fill out an application and have it approved. People can adopt up to two pets per household.

Operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.  The shelter is closed Mon-Sun.
