Company Makes Good On Texas Move Over Gun Laws

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - One of the country's largest producers of gun magazines is leaving Colorado and moving operations to Wyoming and Texas because of new gun laws.

Erie, Colo.-based Magpul Industries announced Thursday that it was moving its production, distribution and shipping operations to Cheyenne and its headquarters to Texas, making good on a vow it made to leave Colorado during last year's heated gun control debate.

The company says its corporate headquarters will likely be in north-central Texas but an exact location hasn't been determined yet.  The company changed its Facebook cover photo on Thursday to a picture of a bus with the words, "Wyoming & Texas" in the destination sign.

The Democratic-led Colorado Legislature and Gov. John Hickenlooper last year enacted a new law prohibiting the sale of gun magazines with more than 15 rounds. That and other new gun restrictions also led to the recall ouster of two Democratic state senators.

Texas Governor Rick Perry applauded the move in a written statement.    "In Texas, we understand that freedom breeds prosperity, which is why we've built our economy around principles that allow employers to innovate, keep more of what they earn and create jobs," Gov. Perry said. "I'm proud that Magpul is the latest employer to join the ranks of companies that call Texas home."

According to Perry's office, he has reached out to more than 30 manufacturers across the country to try to lure them to relocate to Texas.
