COLLEYVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - At a time when half of all marriages end in divorce, a course at the Covenant Church in Colleyville offers a realistic approach to helping couples improve their relationships.

The 16-week "Renew" course encourages couples to put God first, followed by love and marriage.

"Build your relationship with him, so he can carry you through," said Family Life Pastor, Bob Anderson.

Taught by a couple married for 15 years, the course doesn't shy away from talking openly about sex either.

"It's time we quit beating around the bush and lets just get real about it and talk about intimate things," said Anderson. "In church it's like 'wow they're really going there?' Cool."

But the conversation also covers faith and communication. Course instructors stress the importance of looking within to strengthen a marriage.

"Renew is all about is drawing a circle around yourself -- and fixing you. Helping on yourself helps the relationship," said one mother of three who took the course.

Couples are encouraged to share, listen and learn in a safe space – their church.
