Cowboys' Claiborne Leaves Valley Ranch After Learning Of Demotion

IRVING (105.3 THE FAN) -- Cowboys cornerback Mo Claiborne left the team's training facility Tuesday after learning that he will be replaced in the starting lineup, 105.3 The Fan confirms.

Cowboys insider Mike Fisher reports that the incident occurred around noon. Claiborne then left the facilities and missed the afternoon meetings and workout.

ESPN's Jean Jacques Taylor first reported the incident.

Tuesday morning, owner Jerry Jones was asked by Shan & RJ on 105.3 The Fan if Claiborne was living up to the lofty expectations coming out of LSU.

"Is he what we had hoped for at this point when we drafted him with the sixth pick — and gave up a pick to go up to the sixth pick to get him? No," said Jones. "But he's gonna be a good player."

Jones also cited Claiborne's raw talent, saying "we're not giving up on him at all."

Head coach Jason Garrett was also non-committal on Claiborne's starting status for Sunday against the Saints.

Claiborne was frequently targeted and beaten against St. Louis on Sunday, yielding five receptions for 108 yards and a touchdown.

His fourth quarter interception did seal the game for Dallas, leading many to believe the third-year corner "redeemed" himself.

Claiborne didn't quite see it that way.

"Not in my eyes," Claiborne said after the game. "It seemed to do that with everybody else. Not in my eyes."

The Cowboys likely made the decision to start recently-reinstated corner Orlando Scandrick in his place, something Jones hinted at on Tuesday before the incident.

"Scandrick arguably had the best training camp of any player we had -- certainly in the top three or four. We've got to look real hard. We've got a guy that's playing lights out."

Claiborne reportedly showed up Wednesday morning to the Cowboys facility.

Garrett is expected to address the media at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday for his regularly scheduled press conference. You can hear it LIVE on 105.3 The Fan.
